How to Prevent the Computer from Automatically Hanging or Hibernating – The intentions of the developers of a new operating system are always the best, but not always the features developed please all users the way they expected. This is the case, for many people, of the standby and hibernation options, two Windows 7 power saving states. Although well-intentioned, you may simply not want your computer to decide when your screen should be turned off or your computer activities suspended.
We will explain what you should do to disable your computer’s sleep and hibernation states and prevent these features from running automatically.
Step 1. Click the “Start” button on the taskbar and open the control panel.
Step 2. In the control panel window, go to “System and Security” and click “Power Options”.
Step 3. The power plan is currently displayed. On your right side, click “Change plan settings”.
Step 4. On the next page, click “Change advanced power settings”.
Step 5. A new window will open. In it, locate the “suspend” topic and double-click on its name (or once on the plus sign) to expand your options.
Step 6. Then expand the “Suspend after” subcategory in the same way as in the previous step.
Step 7. If you are using a device, click the “On battery” and “On the power” options and set your times to “Never”.
Step 8. On a desktop, click “Setup” and set the time to “Never.”
Step 9. Now expand the “Allow Hybrid Suspension” category and disable your options.
Step 10. Do the same in the “Hibernate after” option, setting the values to “Never”.
Step 11. If you also want to prevent the monitor from turning off automatically, scroll down until you find the “Video” topic.
Step 12. Expand the video options and change the value of “Fade video after” to zero.
Step 13. In the “Turn off the monitor after” option, change the values of the available items to “Never.”
Step 14. After setting these settings, click “Apply” and “OK” to start using them.
After these steps, you will no longer have problems with the automatic suspension of computer activities . However, it is worth noting that for laptops and notebook users, these settings can lead to loss of documents and information if the device’s battery completely discharges.
